1
00:01:48,920 --> 00:01:55,029
A picture with a smile —
and perhaps, a tear.

2
00:02:00,013 --> 00:02:02,850
"Charity Hospital"

3
00:02:08,563 --> 00:02:13,579
The woman — whose
sin was to be a mother.

4
00:02:54,391 --> 00:02:56,011
Alone.

5
00:03:00,336 --> 00:03:02,347
The man.

6
00:06:01,815 --> 00:06:04,950
His morning promenade.

7
00:06:25,131 --> 00:06:27,540
"Awkward ass."

8
00:07:30,148 --> 00:07:33,743
"Pardon me, you dropped something."

9
00:09:40,993 --> 00:09:47,773
<i>Please love and care
for this orphan child.</i>

10
00:10:14,578 --> 00:10:16,330
"Is that yours?"

11
00:10:18,069 --> 00:10:20,256
"What's its name?"

12
00:10:27,787 --> 00:10:28,961
"John."

13
00:13:23,746 --> 00:13:30,250
FIVE YEARS LATER

14
00:14:21,214 --> 00:14:25,344
"Put the quarter in the gas meter."

15
00:15:32,319 --> 00:15:36,448
"You know what streets we worked today?"

16
00:18:24,931 --> 00:18:27,267
All's well...
Job number 13.

17
00:19:02,131 --> 00:19:03,633
Off duty.

18
00:20:41,104 --> 00:20:45,233
The woman —
now a star of great prominence.

19
00:20:51,072 --> 00:20:54,695
<i>Congratulations on your
performance last night.</i>

20
00:21:00,453 --> 00:21:03,206
Professor Guido, impresario.

21
00:21:14,466 --> 00:21:18,637
"Read what the critics say... wonderful!"

22
00:22:35,707 --> 00:22:41,219
Charity —
to some a duty, to others a joy.

23
00:28:00,291 --> 00:28:02,556
Enter — his brother.

24
00:28:23,023 --> 00:28:24,916
"You wicked boy."

25
00:28:33,325 --> 00:28:35,051
"Go lick 'im."

26
00:28:43,787 --> 00:28:50,330
"If your kid beats my brother,
then I'm going to beat you."

27
00:30:07,960 --> 00:30:12,515
"And you wouldn't strike this man,
would you?"

28
00:30:40,111 --> 00:30:46,333
"Remember — if he smites you on one cheek,
offer him the other."

29
00:31:12,661 --> 00:31:15,245
A successful retreat.

30
00:31:39,139 --> 00:31:42,577
"Oh, well, I guess
he's not in."

31
00:31:59,192 --> 00:32:03,342
"This child is ill. Get a doctor at once!"

32
00:32:09,290 --> 00:32:13,169
"I must go now, but I'll return."

33
00:32:22,287 --> 00:32:26,174
The country doctor.

34
00:32:58,505 --> 00:33:00,067
"Say 'ah'."

35
00:33:20,612 --> 00:33:22,068
"Louder!"

36
00:33:47,095 --> 00:33:50,891
"Are you the father of this child?"

37
00:33:52,858 --> 00:33:54,666
"Well — practically."

38
00:33:57,314 --> 00:33:59,536
"Explain yourself."

39
00:34:21,212 --> 00:34:27,518
<i>Please love and care
for this orphan child.</i>

40
00:34:37,724 --> 00:34:41,626
"This child needs proper care and attention."

41
00:34:49,575 --> 00:34:51,963
"I'll attend to the matter."

42
00:35:17,757 --> 00:35:23,946
Convalescence

43
00:35:39,712 --> 00:35:42,848
The proper care and attention.

44
00:35:50,178 --> 00:35:53,931
County Orphan Asylum

45
00:36:13,155 --> 00:36:16,579
"Ask him where the kid is."

46
00:36:21,088 --> 00:36:26,229
"Ask him if he's got any belongings."

47
00:36:28,376 --> 00:36:31,894
"Tell him it's none of his business."

48
00:41:00,359 --> 00:41:01,951
Night.

49
00:43:13,159 --> 00:43:17,461
"You don't charge for a baby in arms?"

50
00:43:41,557 --> 00:43:43,000
$ 1,000 REWARD
LOST CHILD WANTED

51
00:43:43,200 --> 00:43:46,800
Boy - Age 5. Last seen with a

52
00:43:47,000 --> 00:43:48,400
and small moustache.

quarters, the above reward

55
00:43:53,600 --> 00:43:55,200
be paid.

56
00:43:55,400 --> 00:43:58,100
No questions asked.
H. GRAFTON - Chief of Police.

57
00:46:13,104 --> 00:46:14,595
Dawn.

58
00:47:48,564 --> 00:47:50,695
Dreamland.

59
00:48:53,384 --> 00:48:55,648
Shopping.

60
00:49:15,726 --> 00:49:17,993
Off for a spin.

61
00:49:29,419 --> 01:38:58,790
Sin creeps in.

62
00:49:29,615 --> 00:49:36,136
Welcome to our city.

63
00:49:44,130 --> 00:49:46,436
The trouble begins.

64
00:49:52,142 --> 00:49:53,648
"Vamp him."

65
00:50:03,184 --> 00:50:04,954
Innocence.

66
00:50:26,304 --> 00:50:29,200
Getting flighty.

67
00:50:33,222 --> 00:50:36,300
Her sweetheart arrives.

68
00:51:00,126 --> 00:51:02,254
Jealousy.
